First lady Melania Trump’s office defended Ivanka Trump on Thursday after comedian Samantha Bee called her a “feckless c–t.”
A statement from Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, accused the mainstream media of remaining “silent” about the vulgar language used to describe President Trump’s eldest daughter.
“The double standard is truly astounding,” Grisham said. “Time and again the Trump family and members of this Administration are subjected to false reporting, hateful rhetoric and outrageous lies all in the name of freedom of speech or comedy, yet the main stream media stays silent.”

Bee apologized to Ivanka Trump after facing backlash for using the vulgar slur on the Wednesday night episode of her TBS show “Full Frontal.”
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night,” Bee wrote in a statement. “It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Thursday morning shared Grisham’s criticisms, calling Bee’s remarks about Ivanka Trump as “vile and vicious.”
“The collective silence by the Left and its media allies are appalling,” Sanders said. “Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast.”
The controversy is the second one this week concerning the comments of a comedy figure. Roseanne Barr saw the reboot of her hit show “Roseanne” canceled by ABC after she tweeted a racist message about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.
