Fox News invited GOP presidential candidates along with Democrat Martin O’Malley to share their reflections on 2015 and wishes for 2016 on its New Year’s Eve program.
Their answers ranged from the politically correct to the patriotic, from unreserved to hilarious.
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum: “Good luck with your resolutions. Mine is to try and stay off the ice cream in Iowa that has been an expansive affair for me.”
Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore: “I resolve this year to be as obnoxious and loud as possible so I can get invited to the next Republican presidential debate.”
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: “The date is January 20, 2017. A little old man walks up to the marine guarding the front gate at the White House. He says excuse me sir, is Barack Obama here. The marine say no I’m sorry Barack Obama is no longer President of the United States. The next day, same little old man, same Marine walks up, says excuse me is Barack Obama there. The marine sighs a little bit frustrated and says no, Barack Obama is no longer President of the United States. The next day, January 22, the same little old man, same Marine, same question. This time the marine is visibly frustrated. He sighs and says sir, I’ve told you 3 days in a row, Barack Obama is no longer President of the United States. The little old man smiles and with a twinkle in his eye says I know that, I just love hearing you say it. And the marine promptly salutes and says see you tomorrow sir. 2016 is going to be a very, very good year.”
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: “America is the greatest, freest, richest and most humanitarian country in the history of mankind. If Washington continues to ignore the Constitution then maybe 2016 is the year to limit Congressional terms once and for all. This year my resolution is to preserve our liberties and restore prosperity across America. 2016 needs to be the year of real change in Washington.”
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: “My resolution for 2016 is to do everything I can to not just restore the American dream but to expand it to reach more people and change more lives than ever before so that this, the greatest county in the world can be great than it’s ever been.”
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: “To all my friends, I hope that we have a prosperous, healthy, and secure New Year’s.”
Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley: “As we reflect on 2015, I think we should also be grateful to all of our military families for their service to our country and also I look forward to 2016 being a year that we can realize as a nation that there’s more that unites us than divides us and we can move forward again as a people.”
Ohio Gov. John Kasich: “Well I’d like to wish you, your family, your loves ones, a very, very, happy new year and I hope everybody will use this opportunity for a great new start in a new year with all the success, and I hope you all have peace.”
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: “I hope you’ve had a good 2015 but I am hoping you will have a better 2016. Hey, I am hoping I will have one too. Look forward to having a great year.”
