Adrian Perry, son of Aerosmith guitar hero Joe Perry, is in his third year at Georgetown Law School and, like his father, he’s even got a band. But if you want to see second-generation rock idolatry, you better get moving: Perry’s already secured a job at a law firm in New York, that begins after he graduates.
Unfortunately for Washingtonians, Perry hasn’t spent time in our fair city, having spent most of his free time on the road with his band, “Tab The Band,” which also features his brother Tom. The band’s first record, “Pulling Out Just Enough To Win,” was released last week. Although the band hasn’t played Washington yet, Perry hopes they will during the tour’s next leg. But don’t expect to get two-for-the-price-of-one in the form of a surprise cameo by Papa Perry himself.
“In general we’re not pushing his connection with the band or anything,” Perry told Yeas & Nays. “We want to build our own credibility.” Still, the Perry brothers have played with Dad before — “it’s a really fun, family thing” — and will do so again next Friday at a gig in Connecticut. “But it’s not like we’re going to be opening for Aerosmith,” he jokes.
Perry says that he’s enjoyed his time in D.C., though he finds our public transportation lacking and the local music scene average (“It’s kind of subdued by the overwhelming political, legal culture”). As for hangouts, you can find Perry and his fellow law students taking advantage of the Big Hunt’s Buffalo wings special on Tuesdays (“we’re the guys yelling about politics with Buffalo sauce all over us”) or at Biddy Mulligans or the Black Cat (“an indie bar … that reminds me of places I used to go when I was living in New York”). And he heads to the Palm a lot, given its close proximity to his apartment.
“When I’m in Washington, I keep it very laid back because I’m traveling so much,” Perry said.
Perry chose Georgetown Law in part because “I wanted to inspire some more political involvement on my part in terms of my own thinking. … I never really engaged it when I was in college so I thought it’d be a good breath of fresh air to come down to D.C.”
