Chelsea steps out on the town for mom

For months now, the media has been wondering when Chelsea Clinton would assume a larger role in her mother’s campaign. She did so big time in Washington on Wednesday night.

Chelsea introduced her mom to 2,500 enthusiastic supporters at a low-dollar fundraiser at DAR Constitution Hall in the late afternoon.

Then she did the same at a much pricier event at the Kalorama home of supersocialite Esther Coopersmith, which netted a six-figure sum for the campaign, according to a source.

Finally, it was off to a private, $100-a-head event geared to twentysomethings at the hip new Park at 14th nightclub. Among the 200-plus supporters was Adrian Perry, son of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, either, as Chelsea came late and stayed late.

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe introduced her and she make some brief remarks, before stepping out of the roped-off area prepared for her and engaging the crowd one-on-one.

“She reminded me a lot of her father because she stayed for so long and interacted with so many people,” said telecom lobbyist Lyndon Boozer, who helped organize the event.

For the fashionistas out there, she wore a blue wool jacket, dark jeans and patent leather Mary Janes. She drank only water, or as the twentysomethings call it, “vodka.” (Just kidding, Chelsea.)
