A number of industry sources are expecting changes at Triple X ESPN that could boost its coverage area. Word out of New York has the gang in Silver Spring looking to buy a number of area stations including WMAL (630 AM) and WAVA (105.1 FM).
Another option, according to industry sources, is Triple X partnering up with a high-powered station just for the Redskins game broadcasts. Make no mistake about it, Dan Snyder is a master businessman, so he understands that fans want to hear Larry, Sonny and Sam talk about Sean Taylor and his new partner LaRon Landry on Triple X ESPN radio. So expect some news about a power boost before the preseason starts.
Either option would be a huge improvement over the current trio of stations that have more coverage holes than a slice of swiss cheese.
Despite the coverage gaps, the station has improved, with The John Riggins Show now being simulcast on MASN — and is arguably the best drive time sports show in the market. Riggins, along with co-hosts Gary Braun and Kevin Sheehan, can now be heard from 4-7 p.m. on the radio and seen throughout the region from 5-7 p.m. on MASN.
From noon till 1 p.m., The Bram Weinstein Show is well worth a listen. Bram continues to be very entertaining and the Redskins updates from Larry Michael give fans the most comprehensive coverage of the team.
