Note found in truck ties Manhattan attack suspect to ISIS: Report

Police found a note in the truck that was used in the Manhattan attack Tuesday afternoon, claiming the suspect carried out the attack in the name of Islamic State.

The note was written in English, a senior law enforcement official told CNN.

Eight people were killed and 15 people were injured in the attack, police said. One suspect, a 29-year-old man identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov from Tampa, Fla., is now in custody.

Reports said he shouted “Allahu Akbar,” translating to “God is Great!” in Arabic, as he drove the truck.

Prior to officials finding the note, some had speculated that ISIS was behind the attack, though officials have not confirmed any ties to ISIS and the group has not claimed responsibility.

President Trump tweeted about the incident, saying ISIS is not welcome in the U.S. “We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!” Trump tweeted.

At a media briefing Thursday afternoon, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio referred to the incident “an act of terror.”
