US national team player Charlie Davies released from DC hospital

U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has been released from a Washington hospital and continues to recover from serious injuries after a car accident.

Davies underwent several surgeries after his Oct. 13 car crash. The 23-year-old was released Tuesday.

Doctors say he will continue his rehabilitation with the soccer team’s medical staff.

In a statement, Dr. James DeBritz of Washington Hospital Center says Davies faces a long recovery. He says it will take extensive physical therapy.

Davies broke several bones, including two in his right leg, and sustained a lacerated bladder from the accident. He is expected to need six to 12 months to recover, essentially ruling him out for the World Cup, which begins in South Africa in June.
