Trump, Macron bond with kiss, affectionate handshake: WATCH

President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shared an unexpected moment of affection while speaking to reporters at the White House Tuesday afternoon.

After Macron finished his remarks and thanked Trump for hosting France for its first official state visit, Trump extended his hand and Macron shook it. Then both men took their left hands and slapped the right hands as a way of showing mutual appreciation.

The two then leaned in for a kiss on the cheek, a traditional greeting still used by many Europeans, including the French.

“I like him a lot,” Trump said after the kiss, as he pointed back to Macron, who then gave Trump a friendly pat on the arm.

“Allow me to say once again that the discussions we’ve had today, the ones we will have tomorrow are fed not only by the strength of our historical bond but also by our sincere friendship, which I believe we share,” Macron told Trump during the joint press conference.
