French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed President Trump with a nine-second handshake upon the U.S. leader’s arrival in Paris Thursday afternoon.

Macron and his wife, Brigitte, greeted Trump right out of his limousine. The two world leaders shook hands, but Macron held on. Trump made a 45-degree turn, pointing to the other side of the vehicle where first lady Melania Trump was likely exiting.
Macron continued to clasp Trump’s right hand, only letting go a few seconds later. Trump then greeted Macron’s wife with an awkward hug and a hand clasp.
Trump’s visit to France comes exactly a year after a terrorist used a commercial truck to plow into a crowd at a Bastille Day celebration in Nice, France, killing 86 people.
