Not only is President Trump on Twitter making fun of Joe Biden wearing a mask, but his team is mocking his opponent in digital advertisements that also suggest allegiance to China.

A pair of Facebook advertisements that started running on Thursday juxtaposes the president and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. In both ads, Trump is placed in front of an American flag, while Biden is next to him in front of a Chinese flag and wearing a face mask.

In one of the ads, Biden, labeled “Sleepy Joe,” appears to be wearing a mask over his eyes with holes cut out rather than over his nose and mouth in order to protect himself from the coronavirus.

The Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a joint fundraising committee for the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee, paid for the ads.

The coronavirus pandemic has turned mask-wearing into a political issue and brought policy toward China to the forefront of the presidential election.

Trump has mocked Biden for wearing a mask in public, commenting on a photo that showed the former vice president in sunglasses and a black mask on Memorial Day: “He looks better!”

Biden said in an interview this week that Trump was an “absolute fool” for refusing to wear a mask in public. In a scripted Washington Post TikTok video posted on Thursday, Biden chided a man about wearing a face mask outside while walking a dog.

The two candidates are also sparring on who is stronger on China. “China is DREAMING that Joe gets elected in November,” read an email from the Trump campaign earlier this month.
