Social Justice Warriors on college campuses have gone from advocating left-wing positions and censoring speech to launching a witch hunt against any conservative who stands for traditional values.
Breitbart reported that Marquette University professor John McAdams got himself in hot water for defending a student who espoused traditional beliefs about marriage in an ethics class.
Students and activists read McAdams’ blog post about how the student’s views were censored, and responded by sending nasty e-mails to the ethics teaching assistant Cheryl Abbatte.
Administrators and faculty blamed McAdams as the root cause of the controversy because he wrote a blog post on the matter, rather than Abbatte who was censoring conservative speech. McAdams was put under a 17-month long investigation by a faculty committee, publicly excoriated by the school’s president Michael Lovell, and ultimately suspended.
Lovell gave McAdams 10 days to write a letter of apology and take full responsibility for all the negative e-mails Abbatte received from other people.
However, the professor refused to go quietly, and in a public letter, McAdams blasted school officials for not defending the exercise of free speech on campus.
“I am to be suspended even though the Committee conceded there is no rule against criticizing how others conduct their classes, no rule against criticizing students, no rule against identifying students of linking to their own blogs, and the post I wrote was not vituperative or rude,” McAdams wrote. “If that can cause a tenured professor of 39 years to be suspended or fired, it is hard to imagine how any faculty member could know when he or she is free to speak.”
McAdams has sought legal counsel because of the investigation and suspension.
