Police arrest man suspected in three separate shootings

Police have arrested a man they suspect is involved in three separate shootings within 24 hours in Maryland.

Eulalio Tordil, 62, was already wanted in the shooting death of his estranged wife Gladys Tordil Thursday afternoon.

Montgomery County Police responded to a shooting at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Three people were shot during the incident — one man later died, a second man was reported in critical condition and a woman sustained non-threatening life injuries.

Approximately 20 minutes later, police responded to a shooting at a Giant grocery store in Aspen Hill roughly eight miles away. The victim in that shooting, a woman, died from her injuries.

Tordil, the suspect in both Friday shootings, surrendered to police around 3 p.m. after being surrounded by officers, police said.

According to witnesses, Tordil ate calmly at a restaurant across from the Giant grocery store before being taken into custody.

Police say Tordil was placed on administrative duties and stripped of his gun and badge from his law enforcement job at the Federal Protective Service in March. His wife had filed a protective order against him in Prince George’s County District Court for alleged abuse.

At 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Eulalio shot his wife dead in the parking lot of High Point High School in Beltsville, Md., while picking up her children from school. He first shot a man who attempted to intervene before shooting Gladys Tordil in her SUV and fleeing the scene, police said. He was considered armed and dangerous following the shooting.

All Montgomery County public schools and the Montgomery County Recreation Department were placed on “shelter in place” until roughly 2 p.m. Suburban Hospital and the National Institutes of Health were also placed on lockdown.

No other details of today’s shootings have been released.
