Lance Armstrong calls Tony Kornheiser an idiot

Tony Kornheiser is known for his rants. As matter of fact it is those rants that in many ways draw his many fans and listener’s to both his radio show on ESPN 980AM as well as his popular show PTI that he co hosts with long time friend and Washington Post pal Michael Wilbon.

Well this week “Mr. Tony” had a rant that caused seven time Tour de France winner and sports icon Lance Armstrong to Tweet to the world that Kornheiser was an “idiot.”

So what got Armstrong mad at “Mr. Tony?”

The rant  was about cyclists while discussing who now have a brand new cycle lane in Washington.

“The last time I looked, the roads were made for automobiles,” he said. “We’re going to be dominated as if this was Beijing by hundreds of thousands of bicyclists …”

Tony did not stop there.

“They all wear … my God … with the little water bottle in the back and the stupid hats and their shiny shorts,” he said. “They are the same disgusting poseurs that in the middle of a snowstorm come out with cross-country skiing on your block. Run ’em down.

“Let them use the right, I’m OK with that. I don’t take my car and ride on the sidewalk because I understand that’s not for my car … Why do these people think that these roads were built for bicycles? … They dare you to run them down.”

The rant brought this response to Tony via Twitter from Armstrong “Disgusting, ignorant, foolish. What a complete f-ing idiot.”

Armstrong told his followers to contact ESPN and complain about Tony.

Clearly Armstrong has never heard the Tony Kornheiser’s radio show. Nothing is off limits to him and offends everyone equally. It is as I said what drives his fans to the radio.

Now that he has an international following mad at him my guess is that “Mr. Tony” will have more to talk about come Friday morning.

Just for the record I a fan of cycling and of Lance Armstrong. I also feel that the new lanes for those who ride bikes in Washington are a good idea.

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Mr. Tony’s producer Nigel got Lance on the show and they could talk it out.
