Rapper Kanye West isn’t a regular political force, but when he does decide to get involved, he is capable of making a splash, (remember when he whipped up a controversy by declaring that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina?)
Now, the Kanye West Foundation, along with Strong American Schools’ ED in ’08 campaign, has decided to focus its energies on getting 2008 presidential candidates to address the 1.2 million students who drop out of high school each year. West performed at a benefit in Chicago’s House of Blues over the weekend, and notables in the crowd included Mos Def, David Alan Grier and Chicago Bulls players Chris Duhon and Joakim Noah. West allowed local students to watch his soundcheck and held a Q&A with them afterward.
