Prince George’s County Police identified the man shot and killed by a Metro Transit cop on Wednesday as Chester Joseph Crestwell.
The 44-year-old lived on Lory Lane in New Carrollton, the same block where the fatal shootout occurred.
A Metro Transit Police detective, whose name Metro has declined to release, was investigating an attempted abduction report when he came across Crestwell, a suspect in the case.
Crestwell shot at the officer, according to Metro, and the officer shot back, killing Crestwell.
Police believe Crestwell accosted a woman in Northeast D.C. on Sunday evening, pulling his silver Mercedes in front of a Metrobus at a bus stop to try to abduct her. The suspect told the woman he was a cop, then tried to grab her when she declined a free ride.
Meanwhile, authorities have arrested another person they believe was in Crestwell’s Mercedes that night.
Police from Metro and Prince George’s County, including a tactical armed team, arrested Franklin Sweeney, who turns 40 on Friday, of Riverdale, without incident and charged him with attempted kidnapping.
