WASHINGTON (AP) — Utilities in the Baltimore-Washington region say they are nearing full restoration of power more than a week after deadly storms struck the area.

By late Saturday afternoon, Baltimore Gas and Electric said it had about 650 customers remaining without power due to the severe storm last Friday.

The company also was responding to more than 7,500 new heat-related power outages that occurred Saturday. New outages were reported in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

In the Washington area, Pepco says fewer than 100 customers in Montgomery County remain without power. Most should have power restored by Saturday evening.

Pepco says extreme heat was stressing the electrical system’s capabilities. The utility is advising customers to conserve electricity.

In northern Virginia, Dominion Power says storm outages have been repaired.
