The Democratic Party is incapable of admitting that any form of illegal immigration is bad. Meanwhile, it is also the party of excessive regulations on U.S. citizens, imposing hurdles on business owners and everyday workers simply trying to navigate their daily lives. Democrats nickel-and-dime law-abiding citizens into regulatory holes while handing out privileges to illegal immigrants, even helping some of them escape accountability for their crimes.

There have now been multiple high-profile deaths caused by illegal immigrants who were granted commercial driver’s licenses in California to drive semitrucks. Rajinder Kumar, an illegal immigrant granted work authorization by the Biden administration in 2023 and a CDL by California that same year, allegedly jackknifed his truck, crashing into and killing newlyweds William Carter and Jennifer Lower. Harjinder Singh allegedly committed an illegal U-turn in Florida, killing three people when their car crashed into the trailer he was hauling. Partap Singh allegedly caused a multicar pileup in California, resulting in life-altering injuries for a 5-year-old girl. Jashanpreet Singh, suspected of drunk driving, allegedly crashed his semitruck into a traffic jam, killing three people.
All four men are illegal immigrants who have no right to be in the country, especially on roadways, driving big rigs. According to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, Harjinder Singh failed a commercial driver’s license exam 10 times and failed a behind-the-wheel training course at a private CDL school in Washington state. Singh allegedly committed an illegal U-turn on a freeway with a 70-mph speed limit, cutting through a portion of the highway designated for “official use only.”
Since these high-profile incidents, California has announced that it revoked 17,000 CDLs for nondomiciled immigrants — those who are not citizens or permanent residents. In the process, California admitted that those 17,000 CDLs violated state law, as they had expiration dates after the “legal presence documents” the drivers gave to the DMV. In other words, California issued 17,000 CDLs that would still be valid after the immigrants who received them would be required to move back to their home countries.
What is notable, here, is that it isn’t even clear how this revocation applies to illegal immigrants because they do not have anything that can be meaningfully described as “legal presence documents.” California has simply waved thousands of illegal immigrants through the line and, even now, may not be taking the steps to reverse that. Either way, the California Department of Transportation, which benefits from the gas tax imposed on California drivers, somehow missed the fact that it illegally approved 17,000 commercial driver’s licenses until the Trump administration began threatening the state’s federal funding.
In other words, while Californians are hit with the highest gas tax in the country to fund the California Department of Transportation’s road maintenance projects, which could be funded otherwise in the state’s approximately $320 billion budget, the department is neglecting its duty to keep roads safe by ensuring that the people driving 18-wheelers know what they are doing, all because that would involve too much scrutiny of illegal immigrants in the state.
You can see a similar effect when it comes to gun control. Democrats infamously support onerous firearm restrictions that have little to no effect on preventing criminals from acquiring firearms, as evidenced by Justice Department reports and even analysis from the left-wing Washington Post. What Democratic “commonsense” gun control proposals would do, in effect, is make it more expensive, more time-consuming, and more difficult for law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms.
Illegal immigrants are not allowed to possess firearms under federal law. While law-abiding citizens comply with even the most overbearing and excessive regulations imposed by Democrat-run states such as Illinois, illegal immigrants, who are already openly flouting immigration law, ignore gun control regulations the moment they choose to acquire a firearm in the U.S.
In some cases, Democrats are even willing to oblige them. Radule Bojovic, an illegal immigrant from Montenegro whose tourist visa required him to leave the U.S. over a decade ago, was serving as a police officer for the Hanover Police Department in suburban Chicago. He was arrested on Oct. 15 in an ICE raid in Chicago.
As if it wasn’t bad enough that an illegal immigrant, prevented from possessing a gun by federal law, was granted a job where he is expected to carry a gun, Bojovic was rehired after being released from ICE custody. There is no real outrage from Chicago or Illinois Democrats over a prohibited possessor being hired as a police officer, despite Chicago and Illinois Democrats constantly demanding stricter regulations for law-abiding gun owners.
This attitude bleeds into how Democrats treat violent criminal illegal immigrants. According to the Department of Homeland Security, New York has not honored around 14,000 detainer requests submitted by the department. New York arrests illegal immigrants who commit crimes, then turns around and releases them without bail before ICE can reach them, even if ICE requests New York to keep those illegal immigrant criminals locked up so ICE can fetch them.
The result is that more than 7,000 detainer requests this year have been outright ignored by the state, allowing around 7,000 illegal immigrant criminals to walk right back out onto the street shortly after being arrested. That number includes multiple illegal immigrants arrested in homicide cases. One illegal immigrant, who attacked a police officer with a machete, had previously been deported seven times.
In fact, President Donald Trump attempted to place an ICE office in Rikers Island jail, which would allow ICE to deport these violent criminals as soon as they were to be released. New York Mayor Eric Adams even joined the push. It was then blocked by the courts, citing New York’s sanctuary laws. In fact, the New York City Council sued to kill the proposal, showing just how far it is willing to go to protect all illegal immigrants by virtue of their status of being illegal immigrants, even if they are violent killers.
This means that, in New York City, Democratic prosecutors will use their wealth of resources to prosecute people who protect others from mentally unstable criminals, or will arrest elderly bodega owners, take their passports, and lock them up on Rikers for defending themselves from violent criminals, but will also let violent illegal immigrants walk right out of prison to avoid risking ICE deporting them.
It is the same mindset that has led to California thinking up all different kinds of ways to funnel money to illegal immigrants or enroll them in free “programs” funded by California taxpayers. The mindset among Democrats, from California to Illinois to New York, is that they must never give any ground when it comes to deporting any illegal immigrant. All of them are victims, and all must be given whatever welfare program, driver’s license, early release from prison, or gun, in the case of Chicago, that the state can give them.
Lost in all this are the citizens who are taxed and regulated to death in Democrat-run states and cities. They are forced to abide by different rules than the illegal immigrants who broke the law to arrive in the first place, because Democrats prioritize illegal immigrants above all else.
