A 35-year-old tennis instructor from Glenelg, Md., was arrested and charged Wednesday with two counts of having carnal knowledge of a minor.

Tyrone Tomas Taliaferrow, the former assistant director of the Junior Tennis Program at the Aspen Hill Club in Aspen Hill, Md., was indicted by an Arlington grand jury Monday and arrested by Howard County police Wednesday following a nearly three-month investigation, said Detective Steve Gomez, an Arlington County Police

spokesman.

The victim, now 18, told police in June that beginning in 2001 when she was 13 years old, she had a 10-month sexual relationship with Taliaferrow, Gomez said. The suspect, then 30, worked as a tennis instructor at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park and lived in Arlington, he said. The suspect allegedly took the victim to his home in Arlington’s Maywood neighborhood, where the allegedly illegal acts took place, he said.

According to Danielle Bouchard, the Aspen Hill Club’s general manager, Taliaferrow recently quit his job.

“He was great on the court and everyone liked him on the court,” said a former colleague and manager of the Junior Tennis Champions Center.

“For quite a while he was working with lots of kids, so we want to know if anyone else is a victim,” Gomez said.
