MSNBC interrupted its regular programming schedule Wednesday to cut away to a “breaking news” story about a protester who accused Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, of being a “right-wing bigot.”
“Breaking News: Protester: Cruz Is ‘Right-Wing Bigot,'” read an on-screen graphic as journalist Vaughn Hillyard reported that the Texas senator was heckled at an event in New York.
The MSNBC chyron was flagged first by the MRC.

“He was calling [Cruz] a racist bigot,” the reporter said. “He was calling him a right-wing bigot that has no place in the Bronx. The man started yelling that this is an immigrant community.”
The protester reportedly explained to the senator that the Bronx is a “low-income community.”
Hillyard said, “In this particular congressional district in the Bronx, this is a 65 percent Hispanic community, 25 percent African-American.”
“[T]his is [Cruz’s] welcome,” he added.
The senator is a Cuban-American. His father fled the Bautista regime in Cuba in 1957.
