GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — The Board of Commissioners for the state Port of Gulfport has delayed a decision on whether to elevate the West Pier to 25 feet above sea level.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/TQ5SFx) that Tommy Thompson, terminal manager for Dole, told the board Monday that his company would prefer to see the West Pier raised to about 15 feet. Officials with Chiquita said the same thing.

Currently, the port is at 11 feet above sea level.
The port’s consultants have told the five-member board they should consider leaving the West Pier at 10 feet above sea level to save time and money.
Gov. Phil Bryant has questioned the elevation plans.
The meeting adjourned without a decision. The board meets again Nov. 8.
