Baltimore money manager Legg Mason on Wednesday reported a stunning, much worse-than-expected $1.5 billion loss in the third quarter of fiscal 2009.
Legg’s fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31 and covered the final three months of 2008, when the U.S. financial crisis crippled stock markets and sent stock values plummeting around the world. The company’s fiscal year begins in April.
