Governor to speak at economic development summit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Rick Snyder will be the keynote speaker at an economic development conference in Grand Rapids.

The governor is scheduled to speak Wednesday at the 10th annual National Economic Gardening Conference at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.

“Economic gardening” is an economic development model that places a strong focus on entrepreneurs and small businesses in driving economies.

It’s a model being promoted by Snyder and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which is sponsoring the conference.

The summit will present local, national and international perspectives on economic gardening.

Chris Gibbons of Littleton, Colo., and Mark Lange of the Edward Lowe Foundation will kick off the conference with a history of economic gardening.
