Man dies in fire at his home in the Adirondacks

JOHNSBURG, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities they’re investigating the cause of a fire at an Adirondack home that killed the 73-year-old man who lived there.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says two officers with the state Department of Environmental Conservation saw smoke around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Johnsburg and found a home a fire when they checked it out.

The officers radioed the sheriff’s office. A neighbor alerted responding fire crews that the home was likely occupied by the homeowner.

Deputies say Robert Lavergne was unresponsive when he was found inside the home by firefighters. He was taken to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say the cause of the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
