Republican voters are divided on whether Donald Trump would follow through on his campaign promises to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. and build a wall along the southern border, according to a new poll from Morning Consult.
The poll also shows more Republican voters think Trump would nominate a conservative justice to the Supreme Court, but fewer think he could fulfill his more controversial promises related to immigration.
About 44 percent of Republican voters think Trump will build the wall along the southern border, while 42 percent of GOP voters said Trump would not, and 14 percent of voters said They weren’t sure. Just 29 percent of Republicans thought Trump would follow through on his pledge to make Mexico pay for the wall.
Similarly, 46 percent of Republicans thought Trump would implement his Muslim ban, 39 percent of respondents said no, and 15 percent were not sure.
But a majority of GOP respondents, 52 percentage points, said they believed Trump would appoint a conservative Supreme Court Justice.
Despite the divide among Republican voters about Trump’s campaign promises, the Morning Consult poll found that “Republican voters were stronger [than Democrats] in their belief that their candidate is likely to follow through on campaign pledges.”
Morning Consult surveyed 3,940 respondents from April 29-May 2, with a margin of error of two percentage points.
