Obama’s response to Charlottesville attack becomes most popular tweet ever

Former President Barack Obama’s response to the weekend violence in Charlottesville, Va., has become the most liked tweet in the history of Twitter.

Obama’s tweet has received 3.1 million likes and 1.3 million retweets since Saturday, making it the most popular message ever tweeted.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion … People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love … For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite,” Obama wrote, quoting Nelson Mandela.

Pop star Ariana Grande had held the most-liked record for her message following a terror attack in Manchester, England, earlier this year.
