Trump addresses Elijah Cummings home break-in: ‘Too bad!’

President Trump, who has been feuding with Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, addressed reports that the Maryland congressman’s Baltimore home had been burglarized.

“Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!” Trump tweeted.

It was reported Thursday that there was a break-in at the 68-year-old’s house around 3:40 a.m. last Saturday. Cummings took considerable fire from Trump over the weekend, with the president attacking him multiple times via Twitter. The break-in occurred before the tweeting began.

In one tweet, Trump referred to Cummings, who is black, as “racist.” Trump also met considerable blowback for calling Cummings’ Baltimore district a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human would want to live.”

Cummings, who is chairman of the House Oversight Committee, defended himself Saturday, tweeting, “Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”

It isn’t yet clear if Cummings was at home during the Saturday break-in or if anything was stolen.
