FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno police say a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of a woman being assaulted was brutally beaten by the suspects before being run over by a driver.
Forty-nine-year-old Nathan Halsted died in the early Monday morning incident. At a news conference on Thursday, police played a video that showed Halsted being punched and kicked before being run over. Police said the driver did not see him.
The two suspects, 18-year-old twin brothers Gerald and Jared Smith, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and murder.
Police say Halsted was on his bike when he came across the teens attacking a 35-year-old woman at a gas station and told them to stop.
The boys’ mother, Lou Ann Smith, told KFSN-TV (http://abc30.tv/1q31Ifv) her sons were the ones who got jumped.
