Poll shows senators who vote for Kavanaugh may face midterm election trouble

Voters may be ready to take out their anger on a “yes” vote from senators on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at the polls.

A Change Research poll released Saturday found a majority of people would not vote to re-elect their senator, if their senator voted to confirm Kavanaugh.

The poll, conducted after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on Thursday, showed 51 percent of people said they are less likely to re-elect their senators after the hearings Thursday. A large majority of respondents, 73 percent, said they had watched the hearings.

The poll also showed 50 percent of those surveyed found Christine Blasey Ford more believable than Kavanaugh, while 48 percent found her more credible than the nominee. Ford testified Thursday about her accusation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in at a small party 1982, an allegation Kavanaugh vehemently denied in his testimony.

Additionally, half the people surveyed said they will view the Supreme Court as less credible if the Senate confirms Kavanaugh.

Democrats’ performance at the hearings outstripped Republicans’, according to 41 percent of people polled.
