Donald Trump said Sunday that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has “tremendous hate in her heart,” given that she said half of Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.”

“We have a divided nation because of people like her. Believe me — she has tremendous hate in her heart. And when she said ‘deplorables,’ she meant it. And when she said ‘irredeemable.’ They’re irredeemable. You didn’t mention that,” Trump told debate moderator Anderson Cooper. “But when she said irredeemable, to me that might have been even worse.”

“She’s got tremendous hatred,” Trump continued. “And this country cannot take another four years of Barack Obama, and that’s what you’re getting with her.”

Clinton made her remarks about Trump’s supporters in early September at a private fundraiser only two days before she had a medical episode while attending an event commemorating the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
