Mayors meet to discuss arts & culture

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Mayors from around the country are visiting New Orleans to discuss the importance of arts and culture to the world economy.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the U.S. Conference of Mayors are hosting Thursday’s fifth annual World Cultural Economic Forum at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. A news release from the conference says the meeting also will include ambassadors, ministers of culture and business representatives from around the world.

Topics include the effect of culture on local economies. Participants also will discuss safety and security measures taken during major sporting events, festivals and other large gatherings.
