Kabul: Taliban attack kills more than 30 Afghan police trainees

At least one suicide bomber attacked a convoy of five buses transporting police trainees in Afghanistan, killing more than 30.

The 200 police cadets were traveling to Kabul, the Afghan capital, from the neighboring Wardak province where they were training. The police were on leave for the Muslim holiday of Eid.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to the Associated Press by spokesman Zabihulah Mujahid.

According to Mujahid, one suicide bomber, on foot, targeted the bus carrying the trainee policemen and their instructors. A second suicide car bomber attacked 20 minutes later as other policeman had arrived on scene to help.

The attack took place 20 kilometers west of Kabul, as confirmed by a spokesman for the Interior Ministry.

“More than 30 people were killed and nearly 100 others wounded” Paghman District Chief Haji Musa Khan told CBS News, adding that “the bomber detonated his vehicle in between two buses.”
