Rep. Andy Biggs, the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, is considering a run to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate.
The congressman said he is “seriously considering” joining the race during an interview with the Hill published on Monday.
“I’m kicking the tires, we’re looking at it, talking to people, seeing what it would look like, talking about how much it would be,” Biggs said. The congressman added that he’s “trying to gauge how much support I might have.”
DAVID PERDUE PULLS HIMSELF OUT OF 2022 GEORGIA SENATE RACE
Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, who defeated then-Sen. Martha McSally in November during a special election in the state, is up for reelection in 2022.
Kirk Adams, chief of staff to Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey; Michael McGuire, the head of the Arizona National Guard; Blake Masters, the COO of Thiel Capital; and Jim Lehman, a businessman, are reportedly considering running for the seat.
Internal polling commissioned by Biggs and conducted by Arizona-based firm Data Orbital shows that he has 36.1% of support from likely voters in the Republican primary. The Hill, which obtained the polling data, said that the next closest competitor was McGuire, with 2.6%.
