A 3-year-old boy was shot and killed at a child’s birthday party on Saturday in Miami, Florida, according to law enforcement.
Around 8 p.m., police responded to an alert from a gunshot detection system called ShotSpotter. Once at the scene, police found the toddler, who was later identified as Elijah LeFrance. The boy was rushed to a hospital, where he died, the Miami-Dade Police Department said in a Saturday statement.

A 21-year-old, who has yet to be identified, was also shot and taken to a local hospital. She is in stable condition.
One witness told Local10.com that there were “30 to 50 shots,” adding, “People were running, so we ducked behind his truck, and some people ran and hid behind these two trucks.”
The perpetrator fled and remains at large, according to law enforcement.

In a Sunday tweet, the department urged anyone with information on the incident “to contact @CrimeStopper305 at (305) 471-8477 or by dialing **TIPS.”
