Democratic Senate candidate Katie McGinty saw another poll move in her direction Thursday as she kept up her lead over Sen. Pat Toomey with about two months left before the election.
According to the latest Franklin & Marshall poll of likely voters, McGinty leads Toomey by a 5-point margin, 43-38, a 4-point gain for McGinty from the prior poll. The poll said 18 percent are still undecided.
McGinty was able to boost her lead even though Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump has fallen in the state. Clinton is up 47-40, but she led by 12 points the last time around.
The latest poll continues a string of promising polling results for the relatively unknown Democratic challenger. In the last ten polls taken, McGinty has led in eight of them. According to the latest RealClearPolitics average, McGinty leads overall by 1.8 points over the incumbent Republican.
As for Toomey, only 1 in 3 voters believes that he deserves a second term in the Senate. Twenty-nine percent of respondents view the Pennsylvania Republican favorably, and 37 percent view him unfavorably. Meanwhile, 28 percent view McGinty favorably, and 29 percent look at her unfavorably.
The poll surveyed 736 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/-4.6 percent.
