Victim unconscious after life-threatening assault
Six men assaulted an as yet unidentified victim in an Alexandria alley Sunday morning, leaving the victim unconscious at an area hospital. The victim suffered life-threatenting injuries, which Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt declined to describe.
The six suspects, described as Hispanic males, one in his teens, attacked the victim in an alley on the 3800 block of Executive Avenue about 2 a.m. Sunday. Gang activity is not suspected, though the investigation is ongoing, Hildebrandt said. – Maria Hegstad
Man allegedly impersonates police to assault girl
An Alexandria man is accused of assaulting a girl in a Wal-Mart store while pretending to be a police officer. A 9-year-old girl got separated from her mother in the Wal-Mart at 7910 Richmond Ave. in Fairfax on Saturday afternoon. The suspect told the girl he was a police officer and that he needed to check her pockets for stolen merchandise, police spokesman Officer Don Gotthardt said. The man sexually assaulted the girl while checking inside her clothes, Gotthardt said. She kicked him in the groin and ran to her mother. Jaime Francisco Calacan Jr., 36, is charged with abduction, aggravated sexual battery and impersonating a police officer. – Maria Hegstad
Driver turns herself in after fatally hitting pedestrian
A woman turned herself in at the Fairfax County jail five days after hitting and killing a man who was walking across Route 1 in the Mount Vernon area. Bertha Lilian Martinez, 44, of Woodbridge, is charged with felony hit and run, according to a Fairfax County police statement.
The victim, Lincoln Nguyen, 71, of Fort Belvoir, was crossing Route 1 about 7 p.m. in a lighted crosswalk. He wasn’t able to clear the intersection before the traffic light turned.
