Trump campaign chief: he lacked support from ‘Republican infrastructure’

Kellyanne Conway criticized Donald Trump’s Republicans defectors Tuesday in her final interview as the GOP presidential nominee’s campaign manager, less than hour before election results began pouring in.

“We didn’t have the full support of the republican infrastructure,” Conway told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd. “It would really be too bad if we win narrowly and it’s not because of the Democrats or this, that, or the other, it’s because we have former Presidents not voting for us. Former nominees not voting for us.”

“That’s got to hurt,” she added.

Conway’s appearance came less than an hour after The New York Times reported that former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, declined to vote for either major party candidate on Election Day. The Bushes did vote for down-ballot Republican candidates in their home state of Texas.

“I think that’s unfortunate,” she told Todd, adding that the goal of Trump’s campaign was to not only “Make America Great Again” but to expand the Republican party in the process.

In addition to Bush, 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, among other Republicans, declined to cast their ballots for Trump on Tuesday.
