D.C. mayor to celebrate eco-friendly alley lights

D.C. Mayor Vince Gray will help mark the installation of an environmentally friendly alley light on Monday.

Crews have already installed 1,360 new light-emitting diode (LED) lights in District alleys at a cost of $1 million. The new lights last longer than the city’s previous lights, have lower maintenance costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, officials said.

Gray will be on hand Monday with other city officials in northwest D.C. for the replacement of the final light.
