A tornado was confirmed to have rolled through part of northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., on Thursday night.
An EF-0 tornado with winds at about 85 mph touched down, the National Weather Service said in a statement. Two gas stations located on Chain Bridge Road in Tysons Corner were damaged by the twister, which appears to have dissipated just outside a popular mall.
“Two service stations were impacted/damaged by the tornado. The first one, a Sunoco gas station situated at the corner of chain bridge road and international drive, had a partial canopy collapse,” the NWS statement said.
Strong winds resulted in the canopy collapsing and leaning onto the gas station building.
