Man arrested after gun fired toward crowd of Trump supporters on freeway overpass

A North Carolina man has been arrested for allegedly firing a gun toward an overpass where supporters of President Trump were gathered.

Police say 23-year-old Marquise Damarius Asomani fired a gun at the assembled group of Trump supporters who were waving flags and honking their horns in support of the president, according to WSOC-TV.

Witnesses say that Asomani, accompanied by two other men, drove by in a red car screaming profanities at the group before opening fire on the crowd.

The two men with Asomani at the time were released without charges.

One witness, Angie Freeman, said the gathering was a family event and people were enjoying themselves when the shots rang out.

“Everybody was cutting up and having fun and laughing and everybody on 77 was blowing the horns and waving,” she said. “We had all the windows down because we had all the flags out the windows, and it was very loud and it was four or five shots.”

“You could tell that they slowed down and I just heard, like, ‘Da da da,’ you know just three rapid, what definitely sounded like gunfire,” said Shawna Winter, another supporter of the president and witness to the incident. “I think it’s a shame that we can’t show our support for our president.”

The Fort Mill Police Department issued a statement on Facebook outlining the charges that were filed, including assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and pointing and presenting firearms at a person. Asomani’s bond was set at $75,000.
