President Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski insisted Wednesday his former boss will ensure negotiations on the Senate bill to repeal Obamacare are concluded by the end of the day.
“I know the president is a great dealmaker and we were very, very close on this piece of legislation,” Lewandowski told Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.”
“I think this bill is going to get done. The president is probably going to close the deal today and if that’s the case this bill moves forward.”
The Beltway lobbyist cited Trump as his “source” on the information.
On Tuesday, Trump tweeted he was willing to let the Affordable Care Act fail. By Wednesday morning, Trump announced plans to host Republican senators over lunch at the White House.
Instead, Trump wants Obamacare to be mostly repealed so that lawmakers can use the next two years to create a replacement. That plan has been criticized by some conservatives, including Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who said it would send the insurance markets into peril.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell does not have the votes to pass a repeal bill next week.
“The Republicans never discuss how good their healthcare bill is, & it will get even better at lunchtime,” Trump tweeted optimistically Wednesday morning. “The Dems scream death as OCare dies!”
