A teenage girl was almost abducted outside her Bay Ridge house Wednesday when two men tried to pull her into a car, Anne Arundel police said.
Laura Farley, 19, of Bay Drive, said she was walking up her driveway after midnight when two men in a light-blue Pontiac approached her for directions.
“This guy pulled up and yelled, ?Hey,? and told me to come to the driver?s side,” Farley said Thursday.
“I thought maybe it was one of my friends from the neighborhood.”
As Farley approached the window, she said a backseat passenger was making odd noises.
“I was trying to be friendly, but I thought it was sketchy,” said the 2007 Annapolis High School graduate, who is home for the summer from Clemson University in South Carolina.
The passenger got out of the car and grabbed at her purse, she said.
“I didn?t immediately run, but the more I got upset, the more forceful he got,” she said.
The man then grabbed her wrists and tried to force her into the vehicle, she said, but she hit him with her purse and ran.
Farley said she ran through her backyard screaming for help as the man chased her.
She ran to a neighbor?s house and called 911.
Police said they arrested Gerwin Morsell, 34, of 1435 Fowler Road in Owings, after he returned to the scene Wednesday and Farley identified him as the driver.
“All of the sudden, the driver of the car just walks right up to where we all were standing,” Farley said.
“I felt brave and marched up to him.”
The second culprit has not been located, police said.
Morsell is charged with attempted kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment, according to court records.
Morsell is scheduled for trial in July on unrelated charges of drug possession with the intent to distribute and handgun violations in Calvert County, according to court records.
