Those in the media were quick to slam President Trump after he announced he will leave Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Monday evening after receiving treatment for COVID-19.

“I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!” Trump tweeted Monday afternoon.

The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin was one of the most vocal critics of the announcement, telling White House staffers to call in sick for the next month and predicting the move will cost him support from female and college-educated voters.

Other critics echoed Rubin in criticizing the announcement.

Also, a CNN push notification that linked to a story on Trump’s announcement read, “Trump irresponsibly downplays virus.”

Trump’s physician addressed the pending discharge during a press conference, saying doctors “support the president’s safe return” to the White House.

“Though he may not be entirely out of the woods yet, the team and I agree that all our evaluations, and most importantly his clinical status, support the president’s safe return home, where he’ll be surrounded by world-class medical care 24/7,” Dr. Sean Conley said.
