Poll: McMullin surges past Trump in Utah

Independent candidate Evan McMullin has surged past GOP nominee Donald Trump in Utah, leading him 31-27 among likely voters in a new poll.

Utah has voted for Republican presidential candidates every year since 1964, but that might be about to change. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton trailed both McMullin and Trump in the Emerson College poll and received support from 24 percent of voters surveyed.

McMullin trailed Trump by 1 percentage point, 30-29, among likely Utah voters in a Rasmussen Reports poll released earlier this week. Clinton finished third, at 28 percentage points, in the Rasmussen poll too.

The Emerson College poll surveyed 700 likely voters with a 3.6 percentage point margin of error from Oct. 17-19.
