Judy Woodruff confused Andrew Yang and Tom Steyer during Thursday night’s Democratic primary debate in Los Angeles.
During opening remarks at the PBS/Politico debate, Woodruff pointed to billionaire Steyer, 62, who is white, while referring to Yang, 44, who is Asian American. “Mr. Yang, what more can you say to the American people?” she asked.
“I’m over here!” exclaimed Yang, while Woodruff, 73, continued to point at Steyer, who was standing on the opposite end of the stage. Yang clapped to get Woodruff’s attention while she looked in the other direction of the tech entrepreneur.
Woodruff has been in television news since 1976. The anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour, she is married to Al Hunt, 77, a long-time journalist and liberal columnist who retired from Bloomberg News last year.
