A Philadelphia father is dead after being punched in the head following a car crash, police say.
Wei Lin, 28, died after he went to help an employee of his restaurant on May 24, Lin’s wife told ABC 6. The employee, only identified by police as “the witness,” who didn’t speak English, got in a car crash while he was making a delivery in Philadelphia, Mrs. Zhang explained to the outlet through a translator.

“After the information was exchanged, the female operator of the Acura left the scene,” the Philadelphia Police Department said in a statement to the Washington Examiner about the other driver involved in the crash. “A few moments later, while the victim and the witness were speaking about the auto accident, the offender approached the victim and struck him with a closed fist.”
Lin died in the hospital on May 27 as a result of his injuries, according to police.

The suspect was identified as Jose Figueroa. The 30-year-old was charged with involuntary manslaughter, simple assault, conspiracy to commit simple assault, and reckless endangerment, court documents show.
Figueroa was on the scene of the accident before it took place, according to police, and the witness provided a photo of him.
The police said they are not investigating the incident as a hate crime, according to the Philadelphia outlet, asserting that no insults or slurs were exchanged prior to the attack. The incident follows a slate of violent attacks against Asian people in the United States.
