Crews stop reaction that created vapor cloud

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say hazardous materials crews have stopped a chemical reaction that created a vapor cloud and prompted the evacuation of a southeast Michigan business.

AnnArbor.com reports (http://bit.ly/N3wbWl ) the Washtenaw County team cooled a 100-gallon container Wednesday morning with about 35 gallons of the solution inside to the point where the reaction stopped. Officials say the vapor was caused by a mixture of neodymium oxide and nitric acid.

Three people were evacuated from the specialty chemicals business in Pittsfield Township, about 30 miles west of Detroit. No injuries were reported and the vapor cleared.
