A man burst into a Route 40 refrigeration company near Havre de Grace Thursday afternoon and stabbed his ex-girlfriend and five other people, police said.

Three of the victims were taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where their conditions remained unknown.

The ordeal began about 3:30 p.m. when the suspect entered Harford Duracool, which makes walk-in refrigerators and freezers, in the 2100 block of Pulaski Highway, said Sgt. Christina Presberry, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The man started walking toward his ex-girlfriend, an employee of the company, and stabbed another employee who stood between them, police said.

The ex-girlfriend ran toward the office area of the building, and the man followed, stabbing or slashing several other employees along the way, Presberry said. He caught up with his ex-girlfriend in an office, Presberry said, and stabbed her several times before running off, then fleeing in a red-and-silver truck.

The truck broke down about 100 yards north along Route 40, apparently clipping a telephone pole and a road sign along the way, police said.

The suspect then stole a van from a driver in the lot of Ryan Furniture before continuing north, Presberry said.

Police arrested him nearby and took him to a hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

Authorities had not released the names of the suspect or victims.
