Baltimore?s newest radio team will be appealing to the listener with a softer side. V1370-AM?s Good Morning team with R.C. Allen, Drew Underwood and Brenda Carl are dealing with a change of identity since the station went from music to hosting many of the most powerful female voices in talk radio ?Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Laura Ingram and Dr. Joy Brown.
And every morning from 7 to 9 on “The Voice,” R.C. has been chatting with a variety of Baltimore?s most interesting people, including Dr. Gary Vikan, director of the Walters Art Museum; Tracey Baskerville, voice of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts and Mary Ellen Vanni, executive director of the Fuel Fund of Maryland. Even yours truly made her voice heard. Keeping with the philosophy of V1370 (WVIE), “a different point of view” is expressed each day.
This past Tuesday, the morning team welcomed ? live ? a pioneer in talk TV, Sally Jessy Raphael. The lady with the red glasses announced for the first time the launch of her new nationally syndicated radio talk show. And, The Examiner has learned, she has a home on WVIE.
“The time is right for a Baltimore talk-radio station with a different point of view ? the feminine perspective,” said Bob Pettit, general manager of WCBM and the new WVIE.
So tune in, and while you?re at it, give R.C. a morning wake-up call at 410-481-1370.
WORLD CUP FEVER
That?s the theme this week of my favorite sports radio station WNST-AM 1570. World Cup fever is so rampant that a few area pubs and restaurants have changed their usual business hours to accommodate their soccer-mad clientele.
In fact, at 10 a.m. today when the United States team plays Ghana, the new owners of Parkville?s historic Emerald Tavern, Rob and Tanya Ruppert, are serving up a breakfast bar with WNST?s “Nasty” Nestor Aparicio. Nestor will be hosting one of the station?s two World Cup parties. Morning-show host Drew Forrester will be hosting the other one at Looney?s Pub North in Bel Air.
RESTAURANT WEEK ON ITS WAY
Mark your calendars for the most delicious days of the year ? July 24 to July 28.
It?s Restaurant Week inBaltimore, and you can enjoy a great three-course dinner at any of the 50-some participating restaurants for just $30.
“The restaurant list keeps growing and growing.” said Dining Dish?s Dara Bunjon.
Check out www.baltimorerestaurantweek.com for an up-to-date list, and note that restaurants marked with an “L” also will offer a special $20 two-course lunch.
Bon appetit.
