SAN DIEGO (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies say a San Diego Central Jail inmate who escaped a day earlier has been captured and returned to jail.

Sgt. Chris Davis says 26-year-old inmate Don Andrea Torillo was captured Wednesday at an El Cajon motel, about 28 hours after he escaped.

Davis says Don Andrea Torrillo escaped from the jail about 6 p.m. Tuesday and was apprehended at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He says Torillo was the only one in the motel room at the time and he was apprehended safely.

He was booked back into the Central Jail for investigation of escape in addition to alleged narcotic offenses he’d been booked for earlier.

Details about the escape were not immediately available.
