Sanders camp manager dishes on private talks with Clinton campaign

Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign manager Jeff Weaver said the socialist senator is working behind the scenes to make presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton listens to Sanders’ voters.

Weaver told MSNBC he communicates frequently with the Clinton campaign as the Democrats prepare for this summer’s convention.

“The secretary and the senator met in person a couple [of] nights ago, I’m in communication with the Clinton campaign on a daily basis, so we are working toward coming to resolution on a number of issues, both process issues and substantive issues,” Weaver said. “Over 12 million people voted for Bernie Sanders over this past year and those people need to have their voices heard and that’s what he’s going to ensure happens.”

When asked about how Sanders could deliver his supporters, especially millennials, for Clinton, Weaver said the onus is on the Clinton campaign.

“There is a tremendous burden on the Clinton campaign to demonstrate that they have heard these young people, that they understand their concerns, that they’re going to fight for a really progressive agenda, that they’re going to deal with some of the issues that young people are concerned about, like the high cost of college education, in a meaningful way,” Weaver told MSNBC. “That’s the burden and that’s what these discussions are about. Can we get to a place where these young people will know that their voice has been heard by Hillary Clinton?”

Weaver continued to say he believed Sanders trusted that Clinton would follow through on commitments regarding any particular issue or process change. Whether Sanders succeeds in extracting anything before the convention remains to be seen.
